How I spent my 7 days of isolation
Everything I watched, read & listened to while sick with COVID 📺 📚 🎧
So…
Little did I know that while I was writing last week’s newsletter I was actually incubating the SARS-CoV-2 virus, AKA… COVID. Ugh!
As someone who is immunocompromised due to the treatment I’m on for my MS (Ocrelizumab), getting COVID means taking antivirals. Originally we had hoped that I could try Molnupiravir, but after the latest research has surfaced my GP and I decided I would take Paxlovid again. Unfortunately, I’m one of those unlucky few that gets the disgusting taste with Paxlovid, so the last 5 days (10 doses, 30 pills total) have been horrible. Thankfully though, the positives outweigh the torturous negatives, because my COVID symptoms were a hundred times better after just one day of the antiviral. I feel so grateful that I respond well to them, and that I have access to them! (Side note: here’s a tiktok or instagram reel with my top 3 tips to surviving the taste if you need to save it for later)
In New Zealand you are still required to isolate for seven days when you test positive, so I’ve spent the last week catching up on the internet. I wanted to share with you everything I consumed over the last seven days because there are some good ones in there that I recommend for your next sick* day!
I hope you don’t mind me dropping into your inbox out of the monthly schedule, but the poll a few months ago was overwhelming supportive of creating more of these Substack newsletters, so here goes!
*you can consume even if you aren’t sick obvs
If you’re new around here, thanks for reading! That’s So Chronic is a huge passion project for me, so your support means the world. I would love if you subscribed here on substack and wherever you get your podcasts, and even shared it with someone who you think would enjoy it as well.
WATCH: Shrinking (Apple TV+)
This TV series made me laugh so much, which wasn’t great for my sore throat, but great for the soul! It might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s definitely my sense of humour. It follows Jimmy - a psychologist who has recently lost his wife - and all of his amazing friends and family.
WATCH: Ted Lasso S03 (Apple TV+)
There’s only 7 episodes out at the moment, and even though it doesn’t have quite the same spark for me as it used to, it’s the ultimate comfort show.
WATCH: Jury Duty (Amazon Prime)
I binged this in one sitting because it was so wholesome and lovely! The premise is that a fake documentary crew have been given access to a group of jurors as they deliberate on a case. But what the main character Ronald doesn’t know is that every single person involved in an actor! Easy to watch 30 minute episodes.
WATCH: Tiktok (lol)
Honestly, I think I’ve spent 4985734+ hours on the app in the past week. I did what everyone did when they had COVID the first time around in 2020, and made another TikTok account. This is a shameless plug but please follow me! I’m going to share all of my travels on this account (and this video decided to go semi viral?! It was very time consuming 😅)
WATCH: MH370: The Plane That Disappeared (Netflix)
I am late to the party watching this docuseries from Netflix, but mainly because I had to make sure I wasn’t going to be going on a plane in the near future after watching lol. I don’t think you should watch this is you have any fear of flying… It’s not worth it!

LISTEN: Here’s a list of podcast episodes I listened to…
MK Ultra part one & two on Medcrimes
Flightless Bird: Spiritualists & Jake Gyllenhaal on Armchair Expert
It’s 100% legit & The Coronation, brought to you by American Idol on Shameless
Plus a couple of other episodes on a series that I do not recommend one bit so it’s getting retracted.
ATE: Thai Container (Bealy Ave, Christchurch)
Hands down my favourite Thai food in all the land. I go for a vegetarian version of the spicy lemongrass and it is *chef’s kiss*. It really saves the day so it felt worthy of an iso shout out.

Anyway, that's a little peak into my COVID isolation brain. Reading newsletters like The Spinoff's
are one of my favourite ways to find new things to watch/read/listen etc, so I hope you've enjoyed this out-of-the-usual-schedule newsletter.Have a great week,
